Robert 4th March 2021

Thank you for contacting me about your mother Joan. I hadn't seen her for quite some time but always enquired after her when I spoke to Gwynneth. I am sorry to hear that she contracted Covid and It is so sad to hear that she has died. Having endured several years of diminishing eyesight, enough of a cruel affliction considering her skills and talent for making lovely stitched textiles. I first met Joan when she attended my workshops for the Embroiderers' Guild in Shrewsbury, and then later the advanced workshops in Lichfield. She was very committed to developing her ideas and, despite stitched textiles being so labour-intensive, Joan made a great deal of very interesting work which I hope, despite her house moves, has survived. She had a very personal and thoughtful approach, producing many highly original pieces which she exhibited locally. It was admirable to see how Joan and her husband George were so mutually supportive in their different creative work. Joan was always kind and pleasant to everyone and we enjoyed her quiet, wry sense of humour. She was a real joy to know. I hope to be able to join you via video for her funeral on Friday. With kind regards, Jean Draper
